Dear Cardinal Students, Families and Supporters!
With a surge of COVID-19 cases across our country and throughout San Diego, I want to ensure we are on the same page. Most importantly, I hope you and your families are healthy during this increasingly difficult time.
I am often asked, “Do you think the school and/or district will go back to remote teaching/learning?” I want to share with you that I do NOT foresee a transition to remote learning happening. With the legislation of SB-167 passing, which provided money to school districts to handle COVID-19 related costs, language is included that prohibits school districts from making unilateral closure decisions. Therefore, I do believe that schools will continue to stay open.
That said, it is important you know that we continue to take steps to ensure the spread of COVID-19 does NOT occur on our campus. Masks, handwashing stations, air purifying, and updated HVAC systems help ensure our students and staff are put in a position of safety. Additionally, I want to make you aware that we are going to issue out KF94 masks to all students this week, which help further protect from spread and transmission. As a heads up, I shared the following message with students last Monday to help ensure we are working together as a team: CLICK HERE.
For those who have students who have tested positive for COVID-19, thank you for keeping your students home. In addition, thank you for calling the office to report your student’s diagnosis and absences at 619-344-4500. Reminder that we offer free COVID-19 testing for students and staff every Tuesday, so please do have your student take advantage of this. The SD Dept. of Health updated their “COVID-19 Decision Tree” last week, which SDUSD will now be using for any positive test and/or close contact guidance. To access an interactive version of this COVID-19 Decision Tree, please CLICK HERE.
I do want to note that our semester ends next Friday, January 21. If your student is at home, please ensure they are communicating with their teachers to identify what they need to complete so they are able to finish the semester strong. If you’d like to sign up for a Parent Portal account, where you can track your student’s grades and attendance, we have created instructional videos to help you on our school website: CLICK HERE
