Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at Hoover High School! Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, we’re excited to have you as part of the Cardinal family.
As we prepare for a strong start to the year, we are committed to continuing the positive momentum we saw on campus last year—in student learning, school culture, and community connection.
Thanks to your partnership, we made significant strides in safety, engagement, and academic success. This year, we aim to build on those improvements with intention, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence.
Attendance matters. Being in class—on time, every day—is one of the biggest predictors of student success. This year, we are renewing our focus on daily attendance and punctuality. Students and families will receive regular updates and support to ensure strong attendance habits. Let’s make every day count!
Please review the “Back to School Resources” located on our website at ******. Your child will also receive a student planner explaining the schoolwide student expectations and important dates.
We are proud to welcome new staff members and excited to introduce new programs that will enhance your student’s experience at Hoover High School.
As always, we encourage families to stay informed and involved. Your voice matters, and we are better together.
Thank you for being part of the Hoover community. Let’s make it a great year!

Hello Hoover Families,
I am honored to begin my third year at Hoover High School. I enjoyed getting to dig in last year and focus on a shift in culture with an emphasis on improving student outcomes. I am excited to be able to continue and further that work this year. With a background in teaching and years of experience in education, I remain deeply committed to supporting student learning and growth in every way possible. I believe that strong partnerships between school, home, and the community are key to student success, and I look forward to continuing to build those relationships this year.
At Hoover, I am proud to support our Electives and College, Career & Technical Education (CCTE) Pathways—programs that help students explore their interests, gain real-world skills, and prepare for life after high school. In addition, I am working closely with our ASB and Athletic programs to ensure that systems of student recognition are in place to honor and uplift students for their academic achievement, leadership, and contributions to our school community. These efforts help create a school environment where every student feels valued, encouraged, and celebrated. Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Dear Hoover Community,
I am thrilled to begin my second year as an associate principal here at Hoover! Returning to the school I graduated from in 1996 has been an incredibly meaningful experience, and it’s been a true honor to serve the students, families, and staff of this amazing community. I can’t believe that it has been 30 years since I walked on to this campus ready to tackle my final year at Hoover!
This past year, I had the privilege of working alongside a dedicated and passionate staff who consistently put students first. It has been inspiring to see the love and care our educators pour into their work every day, and I am excited to continue building on the strong foundation we’ve created together.
After over 20 years in education, I remain deeply committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, safe, rigorous, and supportive learning environment. My passion lies in collaborating with students, staff, families, and the larger community to ensure every student has what they need to succeed. More than ever, I believe that all students can succeed when given the opportunity, tools, and support to be successful. I am inspired by the student who wanted to drop an AP course she thought would be too hard for her but then finished the semester with an A in the course. I am equally inspired by the student who throughout the year struggled to show up to school but then showed up to summer school and successfully recovered his credits and verbally stated he wants to do better. The success our students are experiencing at Hoover is a testament to your dedication.
I look forward to continuing this important work in the year ahead and to all that we will accomplish together for our students. Thank you for all that you do!
Respectfully,
Armando Leon

Hoover Families
I am honored and excited to continue my 2nd year working in my community City Heights at Hoover High as your Associate Principal. I know the importance of families and communities working together to ensure positive outcomes for all students. I have a total of 14 years in education, with 10 of those years in the San Diego Unified School District.
I am the child of immigrants. My father was born in Barbados and my mother in Antigua as part of the Caribbean islands. My parents immigrated to Los Angeles, CA in the mid 1970s. I received my Bachelor’s degrees (English, World Literature and World Arts and Cultures, Dance) from UCLA and my Master’s Degree and Teaching Credential from UCSD. This past May, I graduated with my Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.
My parents have always emphasized the importance of education and how it has the power to open doors to endless opportunities and possibilities. I know from experience that ALL students are capable of learning and achieving greatness. I look forward to working with students, families, and the community in ensuring that ALL of our students have the necessary tools, resources, support, and opportunities to be successful in their academics and beyond.
I am looking forward to continuing to work with you all.

It’s a dream come true to serve the students and families of Hoover High School! I’ve been committed to elevating student voice, increasing family engagement, and creating meaningful learning experiences. I’ve taught English and History in rural Arkansas, led after-school programs in New York City, and taught project-based learning in the South Bay. I’ve also coached teachers across the U.S. and recently supported students from Rosa Parks, Central, Wilson, and Clark through hands-on learning at School in the Park. I hold degrees from Sacramento State and Teachers College, Columbia University.
All students deserve to be surrounded by caring adults who see them, support them, and believe in their potential. My goal is to be one of those adults every single day.
As Instructional Coordinator, my role is to help students find their path—college, career, or apprenticeship. I look forward to supporting all Cardinals to be amazing.
