I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year. After two years as
Principal of Central Elementary in National City, I am excited to return to our incredible community with a renewed commitment to fostering a safe learning and working environment. Over the summer, our campus underwent a much-deserved and needed facelift, which has beautified our learning space. While the fresh paint and updated facilities are lovely, it is the people that make Hoover special. I am committed to leading with a student-centered mindset, supporting each student, and maintaining a renewed dedication to making Hoover High School "THEE PLACE TO BE"!
I look forward to talking with each of our school community members and will work to maintain an open-door policy to foster open lines of communication.
We also have a new Admin Team, each bringing their unique experiences that will further
strengthen our community. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Cherese Wiltshire and Mr.
Armando Leon, and extending a welcome back to Mr. Joe Boertmann.

I am thrilled to be back for a second year at Hoover and to continue to build the connections with
students and parents that I was able to start last year. Last year, I got to witness and support our
culinary arts students representing Hoover to the district at the CCTE showcase, the marching
band debut, mariachi becoming a class for credit, the creation of our Code Red student section,
ROTC take second place in the district, a fully student run musical, including a live student band,
student light/sound/backstage techs, and our ASB program work tirelessly all year to put on
events that make Hoover the place to be, just to name a few of the highlights.
I am looking forward to this year where we will focus on the “for-you” four-year plan which means that we
will working to make sure your high school experience is tailored to your goals as we progress
towards graduation. I want both students and families to feel that they can reach out to me if
there is a need for support or guidance. I am looking forward to a great year in the Nest.

I am excited to have the opportunity to work at Hoover. My passion lies in working with students, staff, parents, and the larger community to create a positive learning environment for all students. I have
worked in education for almost two decades, having taught social studies at both the middle and high school level before moving to an administrative role at a K12 campus.
I was born in Mexico and so understand what it is like to come to the U.S. as an immigrant. In fourth grade, I moved to City Heights and eventually graduated from Hoover before attending college. I received
both my Bachelor's (Social Science) and Master's (Policy Studies in Cross-Cultural Education) from San Diego State University. Through my lived experience, education, and time working in schools, I have
come to believe strongly that every student can learn. Part of my role as an educator and administrator is to help students believe the same about themselves. Having often experienced low expectations as a
student, I also believe in making sure all students, regardless of their background, have access to a rigorous education. I look forward to supporting the Hoover community to ensure that students have the
tools, access, and support to be successful.

I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to work in my community City Heights at Hoover as your Associate Principal. I know the importance of families and communities workingtogether to ensure positive outcomes for all students. I have a total of 13 years in education, with 9 of those years in the San Diego Unified School District.
I am the child of immigrants. My father was born in Barbados and my mother in Antigua as part of the Caribbean islands. My parents immigrated to Los Angeles, CA in the mid 1970s. I received my Bachelor’s degrees (English, World Literature and World Arts and Cultures, Dance)from UCLA and my Master’s Degree and Teaching Credential from UCSD. I am currently working on my Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.
My parents always emphasized the importance of education and how it has the power to open doors to endless opportunities and possibilities. I know from experience that ALL students arecapable of learning and achieving greatness. I look forward to working with students, families, and the community in ensuring that ALL of our students have the necessary tools, resources, support, and opportunities to be successful in their academics.
